Episode 3 – A Kitchen Fit for a Queen

(Air date: 4/06/22)

While dealing with the continued drama of the exterior marble cladding and ventilation issues in the proposed commercial-grade Benihana kitchen, Jackie tries to focus her energies on her son’s birthday party.

Kim and the design team must break the news to Jackie that the only solution to the previous workers’ faulty kitchen ventilation scheme is to rip it out and completely redesign it. With Kim’s and Mark’s extensive restaurant experience, can she and the Versailles team site, design and install ventilation that won’t leave the entire estate smelling like a hibachi?

Meanwhile, Kim and her team’s tireless work result in the completion of the Morning Kitchen, minus a few minor touches. Kim marvels, “We almost have our first room finished after 20 years!” The Siegel kids unveil the kitchen to Jackie, who is delighted to see her vision come to fruition. The room’s $30,000 metallic-blue ombre walls, custom cabinetry by Bilmar Creations, detailed crown molding, blue marble chandelier, and 10 chairs covered in Christian La Croix fabric combine with selected objects and antiques from the warehouse to make this a stunning sight to behold. “We wanted this room to be fun;” says Kim, “a little bit sexy and a little bit sparkly. I hope you love it. We love it!” Happily, Jackie is beyond thrilled. Even the Macaw parrot, Turkey, seems impressed with her new home.

Kim shows Jackie design ideas for the formal dining room, including gorgeous gold and silver leaf Italian damask wall fabric by Gianti, sumptuous eggplant-purple velvet draperies by Schumacher, and a lush custom carpet by Nourison, which adds warmth and texture to the marble floor.  The floor itself is a piece of artwork with inlaid precious stones including amethyst, pink onyx, jade, honey onyx and a grouping of other gorgeous stones.

The grand dining room is anchored by a magnificent dining table with seating for 20, and graced with chandeliers and columns detailed, per Jackie’s wishes, with plenty of her passion color, purple. “It’s purple, and there’s a lot of it,” says Kim. “So, either I love it or I hate it. I don’t know. I can’t decide.” A giant vintage mirror will double the room’s majesty, and the royal court will be overseen by huge, striking portraits of Jackie and David.

In this room, Kim wanted to create a unique interpretation of a formal living room by incorporating silver with gold gilding. This elevates the look and makes it unique when compared to the rest of the rooms that just have gold. However, David Sr. loved the idea of a gold ornate ceiling. To meet his request and love of an intricate gold ceiling whilst still employing the silver, Kim created a new effect starting with silver leaf on the walls and an ombre effect blending into the gold leafed ceiling.
