Mixed Materials

mixed materials interior design

Although there is nothing like mesmerizing matching decor, mixing design materials is definitely okay. Nowadays it is almost a must! Metals with different metals, wood with different wood and we cannot forget about metals and wood together! Both of these materials are doing a fantastic job of coming together and creating a popular trend we know today as Industrial Modern. We cannot forget also combining these materials with others such as carpet, fur, marble, stone, etc. The mixing of materials when designing a space has been in effect for a while now, but let us explain why it creates a more diverse and exciting design.

Wood and Metal
Now these two have been brought to light in the last few years and the combo has been labeled as Industrial Modern. Picture metal pipes connecting to a piece of wood to complete a beautiful work desk or even kitchen table. They can also be combined together to create an amazing light fixture to place over a dining room table or kitchen island. This look can make a space completely chic without actually having to doll it up. The metal and wood together complement each other enough to polish off the space without much more decor or detail needed!

Marble and Metal
We know how much people love this combo because we love it too! It is a timeless and elegant look and can be integrated into almost any theme. I mean the metal side tables here are beyond gorgeous and the marble wall!?! Incredible. It creates the appearance of fashionable and expensive and does not always have to be either one! Many places are aware that this kind of design is selling and there are many options out there for mixing these products and placing them into your space. Get out and do a thorough search because you are bound to find some gems!

Fur, Wood and Metal
Multiple materials are even more impressive. Some people tend to get intimidated by using too many materials, but when used correctly, this combination is truly beautiful. In the picture above, you can see that the metal chair and white wooden table mesh well and throwing in the fur rug classes the space up a bit. Let us not forget the impressive distressed wood floor everything is staged upon. Do not be scared to mix it up a little because there are so many great options to choose from!

Stone and Metal
As you can see in this photo, the design is not only stone and metal, but wood as well! We are not mad about it because the three work so well together. The metal in the photo above gives the space a bit more pizzaz and livens it up a little. Without the metal, the stone and wood combo would appear somewhat dull, so thank you metal. Throw in some greenery and there you have it, an incredibly chic lobby or family room.

These are only a few ways to use mixed materials in a space, but do not be fooled, the possibilities are endless. Show us what you can do!
