Episode 1 Recap – Resurrecting Versailles

(Air date: 3/30/22)

Of primary focus is Jackie’s dream morning kitchen, which Jackie envisions with a tropical bird theme and matching color scheme. In addition to coming up with original designs, Kim’s challenge also includes updating or replacing previous designers’ work that now, after so many years, feels outdated. The morning kitchen will host a large antique bird cage in which Jackie will house live tropical birds, whose colors will harmonize with the decor. This space will serve as a family hang-out area, so it must be both beautiful and comfortable. To provide year-round luxury and coziness, Kim’s team will be installing a heated kitchen floor. Says Kim, “I can’t say we’ve done heated floors in the kitchen before, so that’ll be a first.”

Jackie and Kim visit the Siegels’ massive warehouse full of antiques and eclectic finds to pore through the inventory for pieces to use in the estate. Kim’s first installation in the morning kitchen is a floor-to-ceiling peacock window to establish an elegant design foundation and focal highlight. Next, Kim combines elegant visuals with easy functionality by adorning the central area with a grand round dining table. To complement Jackie’s tropical bird theme, Kim introduces sumptuous flora- and fauna-inspired fabric by Christian Lacroix for the dining room chairs and accents, turning this family kitchen into more a place to feast, but also a feast for the eyes.
